‘Doesn’t interest me’: Roy Hodgson not bothered by Victor Orta antics

Leeds United suffered another 4-1 loss in the Premier League this weekend, with Crystal Palace coming away with a comfortable win at Selhurst Park.

Goals from Scott Dann, Eberechi Eze, an own goal from Helder Costa, and Jordan Ayew’s finish secured the win in what was a controversial game.

The big talking point was Patrick Bamford, who also scored Leeds’ only goal, having a goal harshly ruled out by VAR because his arm was offside.

It was not the only talking point.

In the build-up to Eze’s masterful free-kick, Leeds United felt that Palace should have kicked the ball out as Mateusz Klich was down injured. That was made abundantly clear by the ever vocal director of football Victor Orta, who was making his case well known in the stands behind Palace boss Roy Hodgson.

However, speaking after the game, the Eagles boss seemed to suggest that Orta did not have much of a case.

“We were quite prepared to put the ball out but no sooner did the player go down, it bounced to one of our players and he was fouled and the referee gave a free-kick,” Hodgson is quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post as stating.

“If you’re saying there was a lot of talk behind me it certainly doesn’t interest me and I didn’t hear it, my focus on the game is so intense.”

Leeds of course have some history when it comes to kicking the ball out of play for injured players. Klich scored the now-infamous controversial goal against Aston Villa which came with Albert Adomah down on the ground.

On this occasion though, there was little to suggest it was a major issue as Hodgson made clear, things happened quite quickly and Palace just took full advantage with Eze’s delightful effort.

But Leeds United fans are fully aware that is unlikely to keep Orta quiet in the future.
