Manchester United have been told that Raphael Varane doesn’t want to be at Old Trafford anymore.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Jason McAteer questioned Raphael Varane’s desire to be at Manchester United.
The former Liverpool man was reflecting on another disappointing evening for United in Europe as they crashed out of the Champions League after falling to a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.
Erik ten Hag’s men were at the mercy of results elsewhere and even if they had beaten Bayern last night, Copenhagen’s win would’ve seen them exit the competition.
Nevertheless, the defeat sees Ten Hag’s side crash out of Europe altogether after such an underwhelming start to the campaign.
The Dutchman made a couple of changes to the side which lost to Bournemouth 3-0 on Saturday, with Varane handed a rare start and Rasmus Hojlund replacing Anthony Martial.

It’s fair to say that Varane’s lack of starts in recent weeks has come as a surprise. Yet, the Dutchman will be relying on the centre-back over the coming weeks as Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were both forced off injured last night.
But McAteer believes that Varane simply ‘doesn’t fancy it’ at United at the moment.

McAteer labelled Varane a ‘Rolls Royce’ defender in his prime but questioned his commitment to United.
“They’re meant to be leaders,” he said. “You think Varane, he’s won the World Cup, won the Champions League, played for Real Madrid. Rolls Royce in his prime.
“He’s at Manchester United and for me, he doesn’t fancy it and he’s injured, got to be 100 per cent fit to play.”

When fit, Varane has been a standout performer at United since his £34 million move from Real Madrid back in 2021.
The Frenchman is a quality operator at centre-back but has struggled with persistent injuries during his time in Manchester.
Nevertheless, there have been suggestions he could head out the door over the coming months after falling down the pecking order this season.
Yet, United will likely have to rely on the 30-year-old over the coming weeks. The veteran defender partnered Maguire last night but the Englishman was forced off injured.
