Falkirk manager Ray McKinnon has told the Herald that on-loan Rangers striker Zak Rudden has a future at Ibrox – but it is hard to see how the youngster can break into the first team.
Rudden, 19, has been in excellent form for Scottish Championship side Falkirk. Joining the club at the start of the season, the Scotland youth international has scored 11 goals in 22 games.
Although the striker has failed to make a single senior appearance for Rangers, he has been on the bench and did score in the pre-season friendly against Bury before joining Falkirk.
McKinnon was asked about his in-form striker and he reckons he has a future at Ibrox, even though Steven Gerrard’s side still boast a whole host of strikers including Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe and Kyle Lafferty.

“I honestly think he can make it at Rangers,” McKinnon said. “He is an out and out goal scorer and has a fantastic work rate but he comes alive in the box.”
Despite his excellent form and McKinnon’s comments, Rudden is in the final months of his contract at Ibrox. If he is to have any kind of future at Ibrox, the Gers need to offer him a new deal.
It is a difficult one for Gerrard. Along with the three aforementioned strikers at Rangers, Gerrard also has Ryan Hardie on Livingston and Andy Dallas on loan at Morton – both showing plenty of potential this season.
Effectively, Rudden is Rangers’ sixth-choice striker. Despite his excellent form, is it really worth keeping him and sending him out on loan again? The best choice for Rudden’s career may be to leave Ibrox.
