Does Kamil Miazek’s inclusion in Leeds squad provide hint on future?

Like many clubs, Leeds United issued an update on their official website ahead of the season’s resumption confirming the contract and loan extensions to tide them over for the rest of the season.

Four of the players to extend their terms are currently on loan at Elland Road. But there was also a contract extension agreed with Gaetano Berardi.

Of course, the update was always unlikely to address the futures of some of the young players whose deals with the Whites were set to expire this summer.

But it did put to bed any concerns over almost all of those currently involved in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.

There does appear to be one player however, who is currently involved in Bielsa’s first-team yet continues to have a question mark hanging over their future with the club.

As reported by Goal earlier this year, Kamil Miazek looked set to become a free agent this summer.

In fact, according to Transfermarkt, Miazek’s deal was scheduled to run out at the end of June. So he may have expected to have left Leeds by now had the campaign finished as originally planned.

However, Miazek was named on the bench for Leeds’s clash with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

There could remain every chance that he has also penned a temporary deal.

Leeds are without Kiko Casilla for a few more games so Bielsa may have wanted to hold onto Miazek as an understudy for Illan Meslier simply until the Spaniard is back available.

But if that is the case, it is perhaps slightly surprising that Miazek was not mentioned in the club’s statement on the likes of Berardi, Meslier and Ben White.

Of course, that may be because Miazek is still not quite considered a first-team player. But he has been involved in a number of Bielsa’s squads this term.

So perhaps, there is an outside chance that Miazek is actually in line for a slightly longer extension.

Transfermarkt claims that Leeds have the option to extend his deal by a year.

And with the Whites yet to release their full retained list, perhaps Leeds may have decided to trigger the extension to give them longer to decide whether Miazek has a long-term future with the club.

Elia Caprile has been named on the first-team bench following his January arrival. So if the Whites were ready to let Miazek go, you would imagine that they would be comfortable with promoting Caprile as Meslier’s understudy.

Ultimately, many may still be expecting Miazek to move on in the near future. But having stayed in the picture after his deal looked set to expire, perhaps there is still a chance that Miazek will remain on the books heading into next season.
