Does Jay-Roy Grot really have the long-term Leeds future he thinks he has?

Jay-Roy Grot was the subject of the ire of many Leeds’ fans last season, and was farmed out to VVV in Holland this season.

He has netted twice in the top flight of his native country and earned himself a call-up to the Oranje’s under 21 side for their forthcoming matches.

He’s clearly got more confidence than he did last season and has been bullish about his chances of remaining at Elland Road despite his nightmare campaign last time around.

Grot said: ““People will say I’ve had a lost year but that’s not how I see it. I’ve experienced and learned a lot. Leeds didn’t give me a four-year contract for nothing.

“They saw a future in me and they still see that. The technical director (Victor Orta) has emphasised this again. At VVV I want to show myself, help the team with goals and assists, and from there return more strongly at Leeds. I want to play in the Premier League.”

If Orta has offered Grot assurances over his long-term future, then it suggests the club has faith in his abilities and trust his trajectory would continue upwards if he returned to Elland Road.

He didn’t show much last season, but Bielsa has a habit of turning players around and Grot could well be next.
