Does Harry Winks deserve a run in the Tottenham Hotspur first-team?

Mauricio Pochettino should consider handing Harry Winks a consistent run of games, with Eric Dier still struggling to exert his influence for Tottenham Hotspur post-World Cup.

The Argentine brought Winks on at half time for Mousa Dembele against Huddersfield Town, and the midfielder impressed with some neat touches and precise dribbling in the middle of the park.

Winks has struggled with injury in recent times, specifically his ankle.

He has managed just 123 minutes of action in the Premier League this term.

But despite such little time on the pitch, Winks has argued his case to be starting alongside Dembele, rather than replacing him.

Dier still struggling

Against Huddersfield, Winks showcased his ability to play the ball forwards and make things happen.

The 22-year-old, who made his England debut this time a year ago, is technically impressive. He is more likely to encourage positive play than Eric Dier, whom fans are losing patience with.

Dier has drawn criticism for not being proactive enough with the ball.

He is also sloppier in possession this season, but Pochettino continues to stick by the enforcer.

With Winks threatening to get back to the form he showed last season with hardly any minutes under his belt, Dier’s days alongside Dembele could be numbered.

Pochettino should even think about fielding Winks against Barcelona, since he played so well against another Spanish giant in Real Madrid last season.

Winks has had to be patient. He deserves a run of games to prove that he is a better option that Dier right now.
