Aleksandar Mitrovic

Mitrovic was one of Steve McClaren’s big summer signings and at £13 million, is the club’s fourth biggest signing behind Michael Owen, Alan Shearer and current team mate Georginio Wijnaldum.

He hasn’t scored in three games but has bagged five so far this season and when you take a closer look at the goals he has scored, you can see his importance to the team. Mitrovic’s last goal came in a 1-0 win, which helped Newcastle secure all 3 points against Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion. Before that, he struck in the thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester United, which helped Newcastle secure another point towards survival.

Back in December, Mitrovic and fellow substitute Ayoze Perez helped secure a massive three points for Newcastle against Tottenham with two late goals in a 2-1 win. Mitrovic also scored a goal in Newcastle’s 6-2 rout of Norwich in October. This was on the back of scoring a consolation goal in a 6-1 hammering against Manchester City.

The general consensus for Aleksandar Mitrovic is that when he does score in a match for Newcastle, they tend to go on to secure at least a point, with three wins coming from the five matches that he has scored in this season. Newcastle could certainly do with a few more goals from him this season if they are to stay in the top flight.
