Do these three Chelsea players still have something to offer Antonio Conte?

Dominic Solanke

A slightly outside-of-the-box suggestion, with Dominic Solanke not exactly having made the breakthrough that many expected of him. However, if Conte turns out to use two strikers, the current options are Diego Costa, Michy Batshuayi, Bertrand Traore and Loic Remy. Remy looks set to leave the club this summer, leaving just three forwards capable of leading the front-line competently, which is clearly insufficient if Chelsea are serious about their ambitions this term.

Having already spent a decent sum of money on Batshuayi, it would be surprising if another new forward came in, paving the path for one of Patrick Bamford or Dominic Solanke to force their way into the first team picture. As Bamford has failed to make the grade in Premier League football when on loan, it is possible that Solanke is now next in line to be granted an opportunity at Stamford Bridge.

His spell last campaign at Vitesse Arnhem, like so many, didn’t go to plan, as the England U-19 forward struggled to earn a consistent run in the side. Despite this, he has proved at every youth level going; including the Euro U19 Championships, that he has the quality – it just needs to be extracted on a regular basis.

At every age group he has been an effective goal-scorer and you only have to look at the examples from last season. In the last four years, Solanke has outscored Marcus Rashford and Kelechi Iheanacho in the youth teams. If those two can prove to be hits in England’s top flight, then why can Dominic Solanke not follow suit?
