Do Leeds now have the best opportunity to finally sign Liverpool star? – TBR View

Ever since Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson shone on loan at Derby County, Leeds United have been linked with a move to bring the Welshman to Elland Road – and this summer might just represent their best opportunity.

Leeds Live claimed in July that the Whites could be one of a number of clubs interested in signing the 23-year-old midfielder, who can play out wide, in central midfield and in the 10 role. He has a contract at Liverpool until 2023.

He has been linked for several months, but a move to land the versatile Reds ace has always been deemed somewhat far-fetched. His price tag was always expected to exceed £20million, something which Leeds could not afford.

However, with Bournemouth relegated and Wilson returning to a Liverpool side where game time seems near impossible, he is expected to leave – either on loan or permanently. The Mirror claim he could go for £20million.

Meanwhile, Leeds have gained promotion and are a much more attractive proposition to players with the transfer market now underway. They have been linked with numerous players, including Edinson Cavani and Sergio Romero.

But Wilson remains a long-standing target and with Liverpool now seemingly ready to get rid on a permanent basis and Leeds having finally returned to the Premier League, surely the Whites are now best positioned to land Wilson?

Whether that is on loan or on a permanent basis, signing Wilson would give Leeds some Premier League experience but also a player that fits Marcelo Bielsa’s blueprint of attacking, high press. At £20million, it is a no-brainer.
