Reported Arsenal target Odsonne Edouard has been praised by Premier Sports pundit Frank McAvennie amid renewed links with the Emirates Stadium outfit.

The Celtic legend also believes the Hoops should look to sell him this summer, with his contract running until the summer of 2022.

The Telegraph claimed on Monday that the Gunners are looking to overhaul their front line, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah going into the final year of their contracts.

Though Leicester reportedly remain the favourites to sign Edouard this summer, it is understood that Arsenal have not given up hope of persuading the 23 year-old to move to north London.

The Telegraph believes a fee of £15million to £20million could be enough to persuade the Bhoys to part company with their talisman.

Edouard has been one of Celtic’s standout players over the years, registering 81 goals and 36 assists in green and white.

Even though he hasn’t been at his best this season, he’s still netted 20 goals in all competitions for Celtic, including 16 in the Scottish Premiership.

“He’s a top player but like everyone else he’s not done it this season,” McAvennie told The Scotsman.

“He’s a better player than he has shown this season. I don’t think there’s anything holding him back in terms of ability. He could go to the very top.

“Does he deserve to go to a big club at the moment? I don’t know. The way he’s played this season he’s let the supporters down and he’s let himself down because he’s better than that.

“But he’s destined for the top. He’s got everything in him to be a top striker… he likes the spectacular. Unless he beats four players and puts it in the top corner he doesn’t want to know.

“But he is a wonderful talent and it’s no surprise the top teams will be looking at him. But until someone comes in for him and he moves he’s a Celtic player.”

Celtic are under pressure to sell him this summer if they want a return on their investment.

“They’ve got to do it now,” added McAvennie. “Reading between the lines, it’s been agreed he will move on but who knows?”

TBR View:

This season, Edouard hasn’t quite reached the heights he’s capable of hitting, but he’s still managed a good amount of goals.

Celtic have seriously struggled this season and, given Edouard’s talent, age, contract and the fact he’s already won everything there is to win in Scotland, he’s surely set for a new challenge.
