A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to praise Reds academy striker Layton Stewart for his efforts in Friday’s Premier League 2 victory.

The 18-year-old is one of the most highly rated youngsters to progress through the Liverpool ranks in recent years.

Last year, Liverpool academy director Alex Inglethorpe told Goal.com: “Okay, a name – Layton Stewart. Look out for him; he can be anything he wants to be.”

The Liverpudlian joined the Anfield ranks aged seven and has been making waves in the academy, shining at every age group so far.

Stewart was prolific at Under-18s level last year – he scored 16 times throughout the campaign, despite his final appearance coming in January due to an ankle injury.

As well as starring for the U18s, Stewart also scored vital goals for the U19 UEFA Youth League team and featured for the U23s in 2019-20.

His efforts were rewarded by Liverpool as he penned his first professional contract with the club in February 2020.

Now, the teenager has made the breakthrough in Premier League 2, getting his first goal in the U23s competition in Friday’s 3-2 win over Chelsea.

Thierno Ballo’s early opener put the Blues ahead at Kingsmeadow.

However, two excellent goals in the space of three minutes by Jake Cain and Tyler Morton saw the young Reds take the lead before the break.

Stewart’s goal, rifling home a loose ball, followed 10 minutes into the second period, before Chelsea pulled one back courtesy of Tino Livramento.

Here is what some Liverpool fans have been saying about Stewart on social media:
