‘Disaster’, ‘We’ve missed a trick’: Some Everton fans react to reports on Goodison-linked coach

Some Everton fans have been reacting on social media to reports by The Telegraph, claiming Nuno Espirito Santo is on the verge of joining Crystal Palace.

The Toffees had held talks with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager recently, per the Daily Mail. Farhad Moshiri reached out to the Portuguese coach to sound out his interest in replacing Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park.

Everton were aware of rival interest from Crystal Palace. But marked the 47-year-old as one of their main contenders alongside West Ham United boss David Moyes. They will not pursue their former coach without receiving the Hammers’ blessing first, however.

Moshiri and Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands may have to draw up an extended shortlist of managerial candidates, though. As Nuno is on the verge of replacing Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park three weeks after walking away from Wolves.

Frank Lampard, Sean Dyche, Steve Cooper and Valerien Ismael were also assessed for the Eagles job. But Nuno is their favourite, and they could announce his arrival by the end of the week following advanced talks.

Nuno guided Wolves out the Championship and cemented their place in the Premier League during his four years at Molineux. He took over in 2017 with the West Midlands side 15th in the second-tier, but endured an injury-ravished final season at the club.

Everton are searching for their next manager after Ancelotti left to re-join Real Madrid as Zinedine Zidane’s replacement. The Italian guided the Blues to a 10th-placed finished in his sole full Premier League season in charge.

Everton fans react as Nuno nears Palace job

Despite Moshiri contacting Nuno, some Everton fans are pleased to see he is nearing the Palace job. That’s because a few believe the Portuguese would not have been the ideal Ancelotti successor at Goodison Park.

However, others also feel Nuno nearing the Eagles job could see Moshiri and Brands hire a worse alternative. Former Bournemouth head coach Eddie Howe remains on the market after turning down Celtic’s vacant position recently.

Everton fan-favourite Duncan Ferguson also wants to be considered for the job, as he feels ready to go from Ancelotti’s number two to the main seat in the dugout.

So, here are some of the messages Everton fans have shared on Nuno closing in on the Palace job…
