'Disappointed': Jack Wilshere says he's been told Arsenal were absolutely gutted to lose 19-year-old youngster

Jack Wilshere says he’s been told that Arsenal were absolutely gutted to lose United States World Cup star Yunus Musah.

Musah played for England at youth level before playing senior football for the USA, and he will come up against the Three Lions tonight.

Gareth Southgate has admitted he was not best pleased with that situation, which indicates he feels Musah is good enough to play for his side.

Ahead of tonight’s big game, Wilshere told the Sun what he has heard about Musah, who left Arsenal for Valencia in 2019 to get more first team football.

Wilshere said: “There is also young Yunus Musah in midfield, who really looks the part even though he does not turn 20 until next week.

“We had him at Arsenal from the age of nine until he was 16, when he moved to Spain for family reasons and joined Valencia.

“He is a well-travelled lad, having lived in the USA and Italy too — that helped his football education. My assistant coach with the Arsenal Under-18s, Adam Birchall, always tells me what a good player he was in our academy — and how they were disappointed to lose him. But that’s life.

“We’re delighted that our academy has turned out such a talented player and wish him all the best, though perhaps he can take it easy tonight!”

The USA came out flying against Wales on Monday night and should have been more than 1-0 up by the time the half-time whistle blew.

But they seemed to run out of steam in the second half, losing confidence when Wales went more direct and started to build pressure.

England need to be wary of Musah and some of the other players in the American ranks in a game they should win but is fraught with tension.
