Director says Tottenham target Victor Osimhen is 'on par' with Erling Haaland

Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has suggested that reported Tottenham Hotspur target Victor Osimhen is on the same level as Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian joined Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer and he has been sensational. He has made Premier League football look easy, and if he carries on, he’ll end up breaking all sorts of records.

Director says Tottenham target Victor Osimhen is ‘on par’ with Erling Haaland

Tottenham have long been linked with a move to sign Napoli star Osimhen.

The North Londoners already have Harry Kane, who is the undisputed first-choice striker at the club, but the Englishman will enter the final year of his contract next summer, and rumours have linked Bayern Munich with a move to sign him.

Spurs will do everything they possibly can to keep hold of Kane, but if he decides to move on, Rudy Galetti has revealed that Antonio Conte views Osimhen as the ‘ideal replacement’.

Now, Napoli director Giuntoli has claimed that the Nigerian has always been viewed as a player ‘on par’ with Haaland.

He told Corriere dello Sport, as relayed on Sky Sports Italia: “We had already made the contract with Salzburg with the agreement to pay the €25 million clause (in 2019).

“Then he (Haaland) chose Borussia Dortmund and we went to Osimhen who, for us, was on par with the Norwegian.”

TBR View:

Haaland has blown everybody out of the water with his incredible start to the season. The Norwegian has scored 23 goals in 18 games so far, and he’s almost certain to win the Premier League Golden Boot.

Osimhen hasn’t had a bad season by any means. He has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 14 appearances for Napoli, who are on top of the Serie A table at the moment.

We’ll leave it to you to decide if Osimhen is ‘on par’ with Haaland, but the one thing we’re sure of is that the Nigerian is a phenomenal striker. He’ll be a fine signing for most clubs in the world, including Tottenham if Kane decides to walk away.

However, he’ll cost a fortune as Napoli would demand a lot more than the £70 million (BBC) they paid for him back in 2020.
