New Liverpool signing Diogo Jota has applauded Reds star Fabinho on Instagram after the Brazilian starred in a makeshift defence during Sunday’s comfortable 2-0 win over Chelsea, thanks to a brace from Sadio Mane.
Jota, 23, completed a £45million move to Liverpool last week in a move that was somewhat out of the blue. The former Wolves ace’s transfer had not been in the media, until just hours before the deal was confirmed – hours after Thiago joined.
The Portugal international did not feature in the 18-man squad that beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, though Thiago did impress in the second half. But it was Fabinho that earned enormous praise from supporters.
The former Monaco man lined up alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back with Joe Gomez missing and Joel Matip injured. He kept Timo Werner quiet and posted on Instagram following his excellent performance in west London.
Andreas Christensen was sent off towards the end of the first half and Liverpool took advantage in the second 45. Roberto Firmino’s cute chip into the box was expertly headed home by Mane. A mistake from Kepa allowed Mane to net a second.
Kepa was put under pressure by Mane and with the Spaniard struggling, his clearance was blocked by Mane before the African star scored. Jota commented on Fabinho’s Instagram, responding: “Mano que jogo”, or “What a game.”
