Diogo Dalot says striker Man United signed for £24m was even better than Erling Haaland

The two Manchester clubs have had some of the best strikers in Premier League history.

Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Ruud Van Nistelrooy are all bona fide Premier League legends.

Speaking to Goal on TikTok, Diogo Dalot has been asked to compare some of the greatest strikers in Premier League history, and he reserved some special praise for one Manchester United legend.

Indeed, Dalot stated that Robin van Persie was better than some of the Premier League’s all-time greats, going as far as to say that he was actually better than Erling Haaland.

Dalot shared his verdict on the one-time £24m United signing.

“Aguero or Van Persie? Dalot was asked.

“Van Persie,” Dalot said.

Dalot then gave the same answer when asked to compare Van Persie to Harry Kane, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fernando Torres, before the defender was asked to compare the Dutchman to the Premier League’s current leading goalscorer

“Van Persie or Haaland,” Dalot was asked.

“Van Persie,” Dalot said.

This is a really tough argument to make.

Van Persie and Haaland are undoubtedly two of the best strikers in the history of the league.

On one hand, Haaland’s goalscoring record is way better than Van Persie’s and he is a treble winner.

However, Haaland is very wasteful and does rely a lot on his physical capabilities, while Van Persie was much more of a technical player and a pure finisher, while he also has longevity on his side.

In terms of Premier League legacy, Van Persie probably edges Haaland at the moment, but it probably won’t take the Norwegian very long to win this argument as he continues to look to break every single goalscoring record ever set in this league.
