Dimitar Berbatov says he feels for Harry Kane; hopes Spurs win League Cup and keep him

Former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov says he sympathises with Harry Kane’s situation at the club, likening it to his own spell before he left for Manchester United.

Berbatov made the decision to leave Spurs for United and enjoyed big success at Old Trafford. He scored goals galore, and won the PL title under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson.

And speaking to The Telegraph today, Berbatov says he feels Kane is in a similar boat but hopes winning the League Cup this weekend can help keep the England skipper in north London.

“That’s why I took that decision and, probably, we will see it happen again soon because Harry Kane is in my position now where I was before. It’s difficult, it’s stressful, a lot of questions in your head, but in the end I needed to write my own story in football,” Berbatov said of his own career.

“For me, personally, I think, ‘Harry Kane, what a great player, best striker in the world, what did he win in his career? Zero’. That would be a shame if it doesn’t change and that’s why I hope if Spurs win that trophy it’s going to be a major step towards winning stuff, but it’s not easy.”

Of course, the League Cup is not the biggest of trophies. But at this moment in time, any sort of success will do for Kane and Spurs.

The club needs to get that monkey off its back in terms of trophies. It might also have longer term implications, and like Berbatov hints, could well help Kane at the club this summer at least.

Berbatov makes a good point about Kane’s situation and his own. It is a crunch time in the England man’s career and he has a big call to make over the summer.

You feel a defeat on Sunday might well send Kane packing. He loves Spurs, but much like Alan Shearer before him, he’ll want to be remembered for being a winner as well. Shearer got his PL winners medal at Blackburn, but could have had so much more.
