‘Difficult situation’: Celtic captain Brown in awkward position according to Aberdeen boss

Stephen Glass admits Scott Brown is in something of an awkward position tonight as Celtic take on Aberdeen.

Saturday’s penalty shootout win over Livingston  was Glass’ first game in the dugout as Dons boss, and Brown will be joining him at the end of the season in a player/coach capacity.

Tonight, however, the Celtic captain could line up against Glass’ men when John Kennedy’s side travel to Pittodrie.

While there is only pride to play for as far as second-placed Celtic are concerned, Brown is unlikely to let his standards slip as he nears the end of a 14-year association with Celtic.

Looking ahead to the match, Glass expressed his preference for Brown to not be involved, and insisted that the 35-year-old will be fully focused on Celtic if he is selected.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Glass said:“I don’t want their best players playing and I think Scott is one of their best players.

“I would be delighted if he sat at the side but they do have a very good group of players anyway.

“They have people desperate to show they should be the next Scott Brown at the club.

“It is not my decision if Scott plays or not. I do know if he does play what he will offer the team.I know what his mentality will be.

“Not because he is coming here, but my preference is that he doesn’t play.

“I then said I will speak to him again on Wednesday night after the game.

“I don’t know if he will play or not. It is a difficult situation for him and John.

“Scott is the ultimate professional, that is why we want him here, and if he is on the pitch he will be trying to win for Celtic.

“Scott has been respectful from the start and I think it is important that he feels no pressure on him from this side of the fence.”

Since joining from Hibs in 2007, Brown has made 614 appearances for the club.
