‘Different level’… David Seaman claims 22-year-old Arsenal player is getting better every single week

David Seaman claims that Arsenal centre-back William Saliba is getting better with each passing week.

William Saliba was on target yesterday as Arsenal thrashed West Ham 6-0 at the London Stadium.

The 22-year-old opened the scoring for the Gunners just after the half-hour mark with a well-taken header.

It was Saliba’s second Premier League goal of the season and Mikel Arteta even admitted he feels the defender could score more often.

But it’s in the defensive third where he’s impressed for Arteta’s men. The Frenchman has arguably been the standout defender in the league this season, alongside Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

And David Seaman believes Saliba keeps on improving with each passing week.

Seaman says Saliba is improving every week for Arsenal

Speaking on talkSPORT, Seaman suggested that Arsenal’s youngsters should look to Saliba as an example after the defender spent three years out on loan before breaking into the first-team.

“The centre-halves have been brilliant,” Seaman said. “And Saliba just keeps going on to a different level every game. It just shows you the power of going out on loan.

“I coach at Arsenal with the under-21s and the under-18s and there is a lot of them that are a bit hesitant about going out on loan but when you see the impact it had on Saliba, you have to go and get that game time.

“It’s not good, just training and training and training. That’s what Saliba did and then he came back and it was like we had a new signing.”

It’s no coincidence that Arsenal currently boast the best defensive record in the Premier League.

Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have formed a formidable partnership in central defence.

But Saliba has undoubtedly been the standout performer between the duo and at 22, he’s likely to become an even better player.

The France international oozes class and never seems to break a sweat while mopping up at the back for Arsenal.
