‘Different era’: Ian Wright says Arsenal can upset the top six mix this season

Arsenal legend and former striker, Ian Wright, has spoken bullishly about the Gunners’ chances of breaking into the top six and insists Mikel Arteta is the right man for the job.

The Gunners saw off Manchester United last night at Old Trafford thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty and Wright believes the club is on the right track under Arteta.

And Wright, who scored 185 goals for Arsenal in his spell with the club, believes the Gunners needn’t fear anyone anymore thanks to Arteta’s style and influence on proceedings.

“People can say whatever they want about the big six and the records, but under Mikel I haven’t got a problem now playing any of them because we are more organised and know what we’re doing,” Wright said. (Goal)

“He has got the players he’s got to work with and it’s changed in terms of defensively, intensity, the culture and what he’s trying to do. There has been progress. What we’ve seen is the organisation of Arsenal, something that people have spoken about when it comes to a lack of intensity and lack of drive. We aren’t seeing that anymore.”

The win for Arsenal was their fourth of the season from seven games. And although they have lost to both Liverpool and Leicester this season, the performance at Old Trafford was much-improved.

Gabriel was brilliant at the back, while Thomas Partey was nothing short of superb in the middle of the park. Indeed, it does look like the signs are very positive for Arsenal at the moment.

Arsenal have been labelled ‘soft’ for years by many a pundit. Namely the likes of Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville on Sky Sports.

However, there does seem to be something changing on that front. Partey and Gabriel make them more solid, while the likes of Elneny have been a real plus for Arteta.

With a bit of luck and a bit more progression on the training pitch, Arsenal can indeed push for the European spots.
