Dietmar Hamman shares who thinks will go through between Arsenal and Bayern Munich

Dietmar Hamann has offered up his verdict on the Champions League quarter-final clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Arsenal host the Bundesliga champions at the Emirates Stadium for tonight’s first leg.

Mikel Arteta’s side will head into the clash full of confidence following a convincing 3-0 win at Brighton on Saturday.

The victory saw the Gunners move above Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table on goal difference.

As we head into the business end of the campaign, Arsenal have it all to play for and remain firmly in with a chance of ending their long wait for a Champions League title.

It’s fair to say that Arsenal are widely considered as favourites ahead of their quarter-final against Bayern.

Alan Brazil admitted just today that he cannot see the German champions beating Arteta’s side over two legs.

That’s partly down to Bayern’s poor campaign under Thomas Tuchel so far but also due to the fact that Arsenal have been in exceptional form since the turn of the year.

And a Bayern legend, Didi Hamann, has shared who thinks will book their place in the semi-final of the Champions League.

Hamann predicts Arsenal vs Bayern Munich clash

Speaking on talkSPORT, Hamann claimed that Bayern have a habit of falling apart after suffering a setback during games this season.

“Everything, you’ve got to say, points towards Arsenal and maybe that’s the biggest danger that you can’t see any other outcome other than Arsenal going through over these two legs,” the former Liverpool man said.

“Obviously that’s a danger [Bayern’s attacking players] and Arsenal will be aware,” he added. “This is a different Arsenal team because they have got a dreadful record against Bayern over the last 10 or 15 years. But I think this is a different Arsenal team. They’ve matured a lot over the past two seasons.”

“But the thing with Bayern Munich is, as soon as they get a setback in the game they fall apart and I think this is where Arsenal have to be… because there might be a time when Bayern are on top for a few minutes. But they have to stick at it and if there is a setback for Bayern at the moment, they do fall apart.

“I think this is a huge opportunity for Arsenal. If they don’t knock them out over these two legs, they may not see a semi-final for the foreseeable future.”

When asked if he believes former Tottenham star Harry Kane will mark his return to the Emirates with a goal, he responded: “But the team is not doing too well at the moment. Obviously, he relies on the support he’s going to get.

“I wouldn’t put it past him but at the end of the day, they want to go to the next round and I can’t really see that.

“He’s scored a lot of goals but the way it’s looking at the moment, he’s coming out empty-handed at the end of the season and that certainly wasn’t the reason he came to Munich.”

Kane’s record against Arsenal

While Bayern haven’t been at their best this season, Arsenal will be mindful of the threat Kane provides.

The England captain has netted 38 goals and registered 12 assists in 37 games for the German giants this term.

His record for Spurs against the Gunners will also be a cause for concern. The 31-year-old is the north London derby’s top goalscorer with a record of 14 in 19 games.

Nevertheless, it’s easy to see why Arsenal are heavily favoured heading into this quarter-final as Bayern have endured a miserable campaign.

Tuchel’s side will head into tonight’s clash off the back of consecutive defeats in the Bundesliga and will have to improve dramatically to pick up a positive result at Arsenal.
