Arsenal are in desperate need of a new striker.
The Gunners have incredible players in almost every position on the pitch, but Mikel Arteta has nobody to guarantee 20 or 25 goals a season.
Andrea Berta has been brought in to change that, and Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers over the last few months.
Diego Simeone has now had his say on one of them.
Diego Simeone says teams like Arsenal and Liverpool ‘have to’ be interested in Julian Alvarez
Julian Alvarez has had an incredible season at Atletico Madrid.
The Argentine joined Simeone’s side from Manchester City last summer, and he hit the ground running for Atleti.
Alvarez directly contributed to 36 goals in his debut season in Spain, and that has made him a wanted man on the transfer market.
Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with a move to sign Alvarez this summer, and Simeone doesn’t seem too surprised.
The Atletico Madrid boss namechecked Arsenal and Liverpool while speaking about his star attacker and claimed that clubs like those two ‘have to’ be keen to sign him.
He told La Nacion: “Everything is logical, I can’t imagine any other scenario: Julián is 25 years old, he’s an extraordinary player, with hunger, with enthusiasm, with humility, with work, with goals, with hierarchy…
“How could everyone not want him? And Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool… the best have to want him.
“And for us, Atlético fans, it should be a source of pride that everyone wants him. Why? Because he’s ours. And since he’s ours, we have to take care of him. We have to help him feel happy.
“How will he feel happy? By winning. And to get there, we all have to give 110 per cent. And not just for him, of course, but for everyone.”

Will Julian Alvarez return to the Premier League this summer?
Alvarez would be a fantastic signing for any Premier League club.
Arsenal need a top-class goalscorer, and the World Cup winner’s numbers in Spain for Atleti prove that he could be a brilliant addition.
| Games | Goals | Assists | Minutes per goal or assist | |
| Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid | 54 | 29 | 7 | 102.91 |
Marca in Spain claimed in May that Andrea Berta wants to sign Alvarez for Arsenal, and that excited the fans of the Emirates Stadium club.
But, the same outlet revealed that Alvarez is happy at Atletico Madrid and has no interest in a return to the Premier League this summer.
