Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Richard O’Kelly would be stepping down from his role at Villa Park.
What’s the story?
Well, after nearly three years in the Midlands, O’Kelly has decided to leave his job as Assistant Head Coach.
O’Kelly has experienced a fair bit with the Villans since arriving alongside Dean Smith from Brentford in October 2018.
The 64-year-old helped Aston Villa win promotion, before coaching the squad to Premier League survival in 2019/20.
Then, under Smith and O’Kelly’s guidance, the squad kicked on to secure an impressive 11th place finish last season.
It has been a summer of big change already with Jack Grealish leaving and five new players arriving – now, O’Kelly has added to the exits with his decision to leave.
What will Dean Smith do?

Do Aston Villa have any coaches left?
On July 27th, John Terry also announced his departure from Villa Park, another man who was a trusty steed of Smith’s.
Both Terry and O’Kelly have helped build the foundations on which Aston Villa currently lean on, so it’s a bit of a worry to see the pair leave.

A few Aston Villa fans below also seem quite concerned.
Hopefully, Terry and O’Kelly’s departures don’t have too much impact on how Aston Villa perform out on the pitch.
For now, let’s see how the Aston Villa fans on Twitter reacted to the club’s announcement…
