West Brom will be playing in the Championship yet again next season after falling short against Aston Villa. Despite an excellent 1-0 win against Aston Villa after 90 minutes they eventually lost on penalties at The Hawthorns.
One of the unlucky players to fail from 12 yards out was Mason Holgate. His spot-kick was saved by Jed Steer and Aston Villa went on to claim the win.
Despite his penalty heartache, this performance will have surely shown Everton just what Holgate is capable of.
The 22-year-old put in a fantastic display for West Brom and was unfortunate to be on the losing side. In particular, he was excellent when up against the impressive Jack Grealish, who struggled to trick his way past the Everton youngster.
Holgate struggled to make any impact under Marco Silva but this loan spell has been brilliant from the England under-21 international. He has improved immensely as a player and the regular football has clearly been an advantage to the defender.
Fans at Goodison Park still have a lot of hope for the former Barnsley star. Holgate’s performance in this clash was certainly of the Premier League standard.
Everton might want to consider giving Holgate a chance next season.
