There is no doubt that handing Celtic captain Scott Brown a new two-year deal at the end of January was a popular decision. The club legend had been in good form domestically and despite interest from Australia, staying at Glasgow was always his hope. Western Melbourne, according to The Scottish Sun were willing to double his wages, so that deal must have been tempting.
However, one thing that was clear on Thursday night against Valencia is that Brown has a certain role he should now play at Parkhead.

That role does not include playing in the Europa League or Champions League.
Celtic fans were left disappointed after the La Liga side Valencia put them to the sword in Europe on Thursday night. Brown, perhaps more than any, was found out in this fixture.
The veteran was dragged around aimlessly by the far superior Valencia midfield. Brown simply could not cope with the movement and vision of his opponents.
Some Celtic fans will remember Brown’s struggles in the Champions League recently and gone are the days he can dictate the tempo against classier opposition.
The new contract makes sense, considering the number of games Celtic have to play in a season. But when it comes to European matchdays, Brown should be sitting on the bench going forward.
