When Liverpool missed out on Timo Werner to Chelsea this month, it was arguably one of the most surprising bits of transfer news we’ve heard in a while.
The RB Leipzig ace was widely tipped to join the Reds for a number of months. After impressing in Germany, Jurgen Klopp was thought to be dead set on landing the forward.

However, as we all know, the Reds pulled the plug on the deal, allowing Chelsea to swoop and seal the signing this week.
Obviously, Werner is a big player. But with latest reports emerging suggest Kai Havertz might be available on the (relative) cheap, has Jurgen Klopp played a potential masterstroke?
The Telegraph claims Havertz may be available for around £70m if Leverkusen fails to qualify for the Champions League. That fee, despite the Werner deal dipping, could well tempt FSG into dipping into their pockets.
Werner good…Havertz even better?
We are in no way suggesting that Timo Werner is not a brilliant talent and player. Chelsea have, of course, got themselves a fine player.
However, the buzz around Kai Havertz should not be ignored. Like Chelsea, Liverpool have been rumoured with making a big-money move for the German youngster. It’s easy to see why, too, given he’s rattled in 16 goals in all competitions this term.

The 21-year-old seems, at times, too good to be true. His overall play for a player of his age is brilliant, while he’s capable of match-winning moments all on his own. That sort of quality can be hard to put a price on.
But if the price is £70m, then surely Liverpool have to consider paying it? Real Madrid, on the other hand, may have something to say. Indeed, it is claimed Havertz is very keen on a move to the Spanish capital.
Liverpool fans, though, can dream. If anyone can pull off a coup like this, then it’s Jurgen Klopp.
The German was gutted to miss out on Werner. However, he might just have an ace up his sleeve with Havertz if he can convince his board to go all in.
