Despite Europa League heroics Ryan Kent does not look like a massive Leeds United transfer miss

When Ryan Kent raced clear and sent Rangers into the next round of the Europa League last week plenty of Leeds United fans would have been thinking about what might have been.

The Whites were heavily linked with a move for the winger in the summer. As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds had agreed a £4 million deal, rising to £7 million, to sign Kent from Liverpool in the summer.

However, an impressive performance from Jack Harrison against Bristol City saw Marcelo Bielsa decide against the move.

Kent eventually joined his former loan club Rangers on a permanent deal, reportedly (Liverpool Echo) worth £7.5 million.

But are Leeds United really missing out?

Whilst Kent may have performed heroics in Braga last week, he has not been in the same scintillating form that prompted Leeds’ original interest.

The 23-year-old has saved his best performances for the Europa League but in Rangers’ slipping league campaign the winger has six goals from 19 games and no assists.

Overall, Kent has seven goals and four assists this season.

Compared to Harrison’s five goals and six assists and Helder Costa’s four goals and five assists, it is hardly a remarkably better record and, on the whole, against lesser opposition.

Kent might have played a key role for Leeds but what does appear apparent is that he is not proving to be a major transfer miss for the Whites.

With money tight at Elland Road, saving that £7 million outlay might have been the best course of action.
