Arsenal legend David Seaman has claimed that the Gunners are “desperate” for a high-calibre centre-forward.

The Highbury icon was speaking on Seaman Says on YouTube.

Mikel Arteta’s squad currently has just two senior centre-forwards – Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

Arsenal opted to offload Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January and didn’t bring in a replacement.

Nketiah has barely featured for the Gunners since the window shut, beyond the occasional substitute appearance.

In addition, both Lacazette and Nketiah are out of contract in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano said in December Arsenal want an “important” striker who’d become their No. 9 for years to come.

But after failing to do so in January, the pressure will be on to deliver in the summer transfer window.

“A striker and possibly two more players”

The lack of depth in Arsenal’s squad has been highlighted in recent weeks.

And Seaman feels that, as well as a striker, the Gunners need to also sign two more players in summer.

“Arsenal definitely need to strengthen (in the summer),” Seaman said.

“(They) are desperate for a top quality striker definitely after the Aubameyang situation.

“Arsenal need players in more than what Chelsea need players.

“For Arsenal to get to the next level they need a striker and possibly two more players.”

The Gunners will also need to bolster their midfield ranks, with Mohamed Elneny set to leave in summer.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ future at Arsenal is undertain and Roma reportedly still want Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal currently sit fifth in the Premier League, level on points with Tottenham but with a game in hand.
