Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has decisions to make on several players who are out of contract this summer.

And one of those is Ritchie De Laet. The right-back was snubbed by Steve Bruce and sent out on loan to Australia but Smith could give him a chance.

According to The Birmingham Mail, De Laet could be offered a new contract. This still remains a possibility, although an exit looks the most likely.

The Belgian defender impressed in pre-season for Aston Villa and many fans believed he would be given his chance.

But Bruce sent him out on loan to the A-League, where he joined Melbourne City. De Laet has been a revelation down under, scoring seven goals and even captaining his side.

And this has potentially earned him the chance to make the grade at Aston Villa. Smith is considering his options and De Laet has other offers if Aston Villa release him.

Here are several tweets from Aston Villa fans discussing whether the 30-year-old should be given an extension to remain at Villa Park.
