Derek Ferguson thinks Rangers and Celtic should be looking at 13-goal star

Derek Ferguson has told Open Goal’s Right In The Coupon that both Celtic and Rangers should be looking at Hibernian attacker Kevin Nisbet, after a stunning first campaign at Easter Road following his summer move from Dunfermline.

Nisbet, 23, joined Hibs from Dunfermline for £800,000 (Courier) in the summer having netted a stunning 23 goals in 32 league and cup appearances last season. This season, he has coped with the step up to the top tier with aplomb.

This season, he has had a hand in 18 goals for Hibs – scoring 13 goals in his 30 league and cup appearances as well as laying on five assists. Nisbet could have been on the move in January again, with Birmingham City making £2.8million (Courier) offer.

Rangers icon Ferguson thinks both Celtic and Rangers should have been looking at uncapped Scottish attacker Nisbet in the January transfer window – and suggests the two Old Firm sides could keep an eye on him going forward.

“Rangers and Celtic should be looking at him, even before he went to Hibs,” Ferguson said. “I watched him at Dunfermline, he’s strong, runs the channels, good finisher. He’s a good player, he’s got the ingredients. He might be one that got away.”

TBR’s view – Which club needs him more?

Celtic have numerous options up top. Odsonne Edouard, Albian Ajeti, Patryk Klimala and Leigh Griffiths are all options – even though the Hoops usually use just one striker up top. But they could all be sold in the summer.

Ajeti and Klimala have cost a combined £8million but have failed to live up to their price tags, while interest from down south continues to come in for Edouard. Griffiths has been heavily criticised, not least by Celtic legend Chris Sutton.

Rangers have Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and potentially Jermain Defoe next season – if the veteran signs a new deal. But Celtic need Nisbet, given some of their forwards could depart.
