Derek Ferguson has told Open Goal that he believes Rangers could look to sign Aberdeen loanee Max Lowe this summer, claiming there is “something on the horizon”.
The Daily Record claimed earlier this week that Rangers want to sign the 22-year-old left-back this summer, who has shone during his season-long loan at Aberdeen from Derby.
Lowe played 42 times for Aberdeen in all competitions, scoring three goals. He also helped Derek McInnes’ side keep 12 clean sheets in all competitions, and has been more than vocal when it comes to matches against the Old Firm.
Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson believes there is some truth in the rumours linking Lowe to Rangers, which would see Steven Gerrard look for a favour from ex-England teammate Frank Lampard.

“I like the boy Max Lowe,” Ferguson said. “I don’t know the situation at the moment, I know he’s a Derby player, but I think there might be something on the horizon. There might be something in that [joining Rangers].
“I’ve watched him often enough and I really like him. That pace, on the overlap, drive, decent delivery, I think he ticks all the boxes. He’s better than [Borna] Barisic.”
TBR’s view
Lowe has been one of the best left-backs in the division this season, and has more than proven himself at Scottish Premiership level. At such a young age, he would be an excellent signing for Rangers.
As Ferguson states, Lowe is more than willing to get forward but is aggressive and regimented in defence. He has a big future, and that could be at Rangers. It remains to be seen if Lampard will do Gerrard a favour.
