Rangers have completed a pre-contract agreement for Motherwell starlet Jake Hastie after a whirlwind second half to the season. But Derek Ferguson has made an intriguing claim about his future on Open Goal.
Hastie, 20, has scored seven goals in 14 league and cup appearances since returning to Fir Park from his loan spell at Alloa. He has even been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award.
Rangers confirmed to signings this week, bringing in Hastie on a similar deal that will see Jordan Jones join the club from Kilmarnock this summer. Steven Davis has signed a permanent one-year deal.
Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson has been sceptical over Hastie’s move to Ibrox, claiming that the winger should remain at Motherwell and develop. Now, he has the “perfect scenario” for Hastie.

“What you [Frank McAvennie] have just said there, that would be a great scenario,” Ferguson said. “Signs with Rangers, but loaned back to Motherwell. That would be the perfect scenario.”
TBR’s view
Ferguson might be bang on. Time will indeed tell, but Rangers have a multitude of wingers and could even increase if they land Ryan Kent on a permanent basis from Liverpool.
Along with Kent, the Gers will sign Jones from Killie, and Jamie Murphy is set to return from injury. Glenn Middleton, Daniel Candeias and Eros Grezda are also in competition.
Including Hastie, that is seven players looking to play either on the left or right flank. Hastie has had a strong six months, but the chances of him being a regular are small. A loan back to Motherwell is perfect.
