Luke Ayling has posted a delighted message on Instagram to Leeds United fans after the defender agreed a new four-yeal at Elland Road – and Oli McBurnie, Derby County star Jamie Paterson and a whole host of Leeds players reacted.
Ayling, 28, has starred in his first three season at Leeds since Garry Monk signed the right-back from Bristol City for a bargain £750,000. He has gone on to be considered as one of the best right-sided defenders in the division.
Yet to make an appearance in 2019-20 due to injury, Ayling played for the Under-23 side on Monday afternoon in a 2-1 loss to Crewe Alexandra. However, Tuesday night’s outing against West Bromwich Albion may come too soon for Ayling.
The former Arsenal star posted on Instagram after he put pen to paper, increasing his stay at Elland Road by a further two years with his previous deal running until 2021. He spoke of his joy at remaining at Leeds, and is looking to get back to full fitness.
Ayling is one of the leaders in Marcelo Bielsa’s side and has captained Leeds on numerous occasions. His character came across very well in the recent documentary, opening Leeds fans’ eyes to his importance off the fiels – as well as on it.
A whole host of Leeds stars reacted with a series of emojis, while Sheffield United striker McBurnie and Derby County loanee Jamie Paterson replied – the latter having played alongside Ayling at Bristol City.
