Former Netherlands international Phillip Cocu is the new manager of Derby County, as confirmed by the Rams’ official website.
They have announced Cocu will replace Frank Lampard in the hotseat and has signed a four-year contract at Pride Park, where he will be joined by Assistant Manager Chris van der Weerden, and first team coach Twan Scheepers.
Chairman Mel Morris said of Derby’s first ever foreign manager: “We are delighted to welcome Phillip Cocu as our new manager. We are continuing to develop our philosophy at Derby.
“From the first conversation with Phillip and his team, it was very clear they share similar views. The fit is strong. We want to build on the momentum that we have in our style of play, our club values, and the increasingly important role of our academy.”

While losing Lampard so soon was not in the script, the arrival of an exciting manager, with more experience than the Englishman and just as impressive a playing career will go a long way to softening the blow.
Cocu’s confirmation on the club’s official Twitter account has got many Derby fans dreaming of promotion once more and here’s some of the best reaction…
