West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing one of Wayne Rooney’s most-prized possessions in Derby County midfielder Jason Knight – and Derby supporters have reacted on Twitter to the news.

Knight, 19, has thrown himself onto the radar of Premier League clubs after some eye-catching performances in a Derby shirt – and indeed breaking into the Ireland side, picking up three caps.

The teenage midfielder has clocked up 59 appearances for Derby’s senior side despite his tender age and has scored nine goals in that time. Knight has been used predominantly as a central midfielder, but can play further forward.

The Irish Mirror have claimed that West Ham United and Crystal Palace have both joined the race to sign Knight in the January window, with Burnley already interested in the midfielder. It is unclear how much Derby want.

West Ham have used the Championship in recent windows as a scouting pool. Jarrod Bowen has impressed since joining from Hull, Said Benrahma is still adapting, Craig Dawson was lured to the London Stadium from Watford.

Derby supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that the Hammers are interested in signing Knight over the course of the next few weeks – and many are desperate to see him stay at Derby.
