Derby County manager Frank Lampard will undergo discussions with his former club Chelsea over taking the Stamford Bridge hotseat, according to the club’s official website.
The speculation has been ramping up since Maurizio Sarri left the Blues and Lampard failed to get the Rams back into the Premier League – and now the switch is edging closer.
A club statement from Derby said: “Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.
“With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions. The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.”

And as the club’s official Twitter account put the news out there, plenty of Derby fans were gutted about the announcement.
Some of them just want the saga done so their own club can get on with their pre-season preparation and transfer plans, while a few thanked Lampard for his efforts.
Ultimately, while nothing has been confirmed yet, it looks as if the lure of a Chelsea return will be too much for the former England international to ignore.
