Derby fans hail Wilson after late penalty offers huge boost in play-off race

Two stoppage time goals from Harry Wilson took Derby back into the Championship play-off spots by securing a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers yesterday.

It has been a rollercoaster journey for the Rams this season – in a campaign where getting into the top six surely represents the minimum requirement – but they are now in the box seat to round off the play-off spots.

They could face Leeds there, after their 2-0 defeat at Brentford yesterday. In that case, an already important encounter would take on another dimension because of the ‘Spygate’ drama which unfolded earlier this term.

But before we get to that stage, there’s plenty to think about and when Derby needed it most, Wilson came to the fore.

First, he held his nerve to net a 94th minute penalty, before completing the scoring after that to send Derby sixth.

And the supporters reacted gleefully on Twitter, hailing Wilson and showing their delight that they are back in the top six at such a crucial stage.

They need Wilson to produce again when they face Bristol City next weekend in a match that will be oh, so important for Frank Lampard’s side, but for now, they are just pleased to have the Welshman and would love to have him back next season.
