Derby fans hail ‘unplayable’ Duane Holmes after Southampton draw

Derby County earned a draw with Premier League Southampton in the FA Cup third round on Saturday – and some of the club’s supporters raved about Duane Holmes for his performance.

The Rams will face the Saints in a replay after they fought from two goals down at home to draw 2-2.

Nathan Redmond gave the visitors momentum with a goal at the start of each half, but the brilliant attitude of Frank Lampard’s side once again shone through.

Jack Marriott pulled one back in the 58th minute, before Tom Lawrence scored the equaliser just a few moments later.

A selection of supporters on social media singled out Holmes for the quality of his performance, as the winger proved to be a real handful for the Southampton defence.

The 24-year-old American has struggled for minutes since his summer arrival and most of his 11 appearances before Southampton had come off the bench.

But he certainly made the most of his opportunity against top-flight opposition and was extremely direct and positive every time he got the ball.

Derby travel to league leaders Leeds United in the Championship on Friday and many believe that Holmes has shown enough to force himself into the team for that.
