Derby fans hail Malone after clean sheet provides bedrock for late QPR victory

Derby are approaching the stage of the season where their play-off hopes are placed under the sharpest of examinations.

And that’s the stage at which – under various managers and with varied squads – they have invariably come up short year in, year out.

Frank Lampard’s challenge is to beat the hoodoo and they went a long way towards booking their place in the play-offs with a late 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers yesterday.

Harry Wilson netted a 94th minute penalty, before putting the gloss on the win with an even later strike, to lift the Rams back up into the top six.

But at the back, Scott Malone was part of a defence which kept a clean sheet and will need to remain resolute throughout the remainder of the season if Derby are to achieve their promotion goal.

He produced a rabona cross as well, thrilling the supporters with some unexpected skill, and combined with his hard-working performance, the fans loved it.
