Tottenham Hotspur appear to be edging ever closer to the loan signing of Clement Lenglet.

Over the past few hours, speculation linking Spurs and the Barcelona defender has intensified considerably.

Sport – via Sport Witness – reported earlier today that Spurs were ‘pushing to sign Lenglet in the next few hours’.

Apparently, Tottenham ‘want the centre-back to go on tour in South Korea this Saturday’ with them.

Then, Fabrizio Romano gave his famous “here we go” seal of approval on Lenglet to Tottenham.

The transfer guru posted two messages on Twitter, declaring that the deal has been “completed”.

Now, Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff has confirmed that Lenglet’s departure from Camp Nou is close.

“Lenglet’s departure is close,” Cruyff said, via Foot Mercato.

“We will formalise it when everything is defined.

“Our job is to give the coach as many weapons as possible so that he uses the weapons he deems appropriate.”

Admittedly, Lenglet is a player that has split opinion in recent years.

His imminent move to Spurs has been met with a somewhat mixed reaction from the fanbase.

Didier Deschamps has previously lauded the France international, deeming him a “top player” and “world class”.

At the same time, Lenglet has struggled at times, and has fallen out of favour at Barca.

Nonetheless, if Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici want him, then that’s a good sign.

After all, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur didn’t exactly arrive at N17 to universal acclaim.

But after a few weeks, they had become fan favourites.
