Demba Ba delivers honest verdict on Newcastle appointing Eddie Howe

Demba Ba has told Sky Sports that Eddie Howe has some growing to do in his career, but that Newcastle United are a good fit for the new Toon boss.

Howe, 43, took charge of his first Newcastle game on Tuesday – with videos posted online. The ex-Bournemouth man’s coaching is earning praise.

Already, fans are being encouraged by his hands-on approach – compared to more of a backseat job done by previous manager Steve Bruce in training.

However, there are some that feel Howe is underwhelming. That is, after being linked with four-time Europa League winner Unai Emery.

But ultimately, Newcastle whittled down numerous candidates to two – Emery and Howe. Toon icon Ba gave his verdict, labelling Howe a “good fit.”

“Where Newcastle stands today, I think it has some growing to do. The coach himself, don’t get me wrong, he’s a very good coach,” Ba said.

“He’s still young, he did some great things for Bournemouth. At the same time, he also has some growing to do. It’s a really good fit.

“Because where he is in his career, and where Newcastle are now – it is a good match. I believe they can grow at the same pace, and help each other.”

Ba on Howe: Can new gaffer get Newcastle firing before Christmas?

While Newcastle’s owners have been told by numerous pundits and fans that they have been embarrassed by Emery – Howe is a brilliant decision.

The timing is perfect. They could have brought Howe to the helm and face a near-impossible task against Chelsea, or tricky games at Brighton or Palace.

Instead, Newcastle’s new hierarchy have remained patient, bringing Howe in in the November break – giving him time to do what he does best.

It allows him to coach his side for the next 10 days, getting across his ideas and installing some fitness into his players. Exciting times for the Toon.
