Dele Alli’s form at Tottenham Hotspur is a real worry at the moment for Mauricio Pochettino.
The England international has struggled with injury, but has now made three appearances in 2019/20.
His latest came against Colchester in the Carabao Cup, a game that Spurs embarrassingly lost on penalties.
Alli came in for major criticism after the game for being off the pace, something that has been happening all too often of late.
It’s a testing time for the 23-year-old, who really needs to turn things around or risk hurting his starting prospects.
Fortunately for Alli, Spurs are in action against Southampton this Saturday, and the Saints represent a real chance for Alli to silence the doubters.
From data collected by Transfermarkt, Alli has made six career appearances against the south coast club and scored five goals. He has also registered five assists.
Alli seriously needs to step up his game, and psychologically Southampton is an ideal fixture for the attacking midfielder.
Whether Pochettino will actually hand him a start remains to be seen – the Argentine could very easily turn to Erik Lamela or Christian Eriksen to play off Harry Kane.
If Alli does get the nod then he must take his chance with both hands.
New signing Giovani Lo Celso will be itching to play once he recovers from his injury and if Alli is still playing poorly then the former Real Betis star will jump above him in the pecking order.
