Dejan Lovren has praised the way his Liverpool defensive colleague Joe Gomez dealt with a difficult week on international duty.
Gomez, 22, was booed by England fans after Raheem Sterling was dropped for the 7-0 win over Montenegro because he started an altercation with the Liverpool man at St George’s Park.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Lovren said: “I think he reacted well, to be honest. I’ve been speaking with him two or three days ago and asked about it and he was OK, positive and this is what is important for the club and his team-mates. We are behind him and that’s what he needs at the moment.
“He’s an unbelievable man and player but it’s aggravated everything about that and he didn’t deserve it. You’re playing for the national team and he’s there, giving his best so I don’t think he deserved the boos.”

TBR’s View – Liverpool will protect Gomez from all the nonsense
Gomez’s treatment by the England fans was brainless and he did not deserve any grief at all as the innocent party in a mess created by Sterling.
Liverpool fans and players will rally around their man at a time when he needs it, as a young man struggling for games at both club and international level who doesn’t need a national furore, much less one not of his own making.
