Dejan Lovren now sends message to Liverpool's Jordan Henderson after England’s World Cup exit

Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has now sent a message to Jordan Henderson on Instagram after England’s World Cup exit yesterday.

Henderson enjoyed a brilliant campaign with England in Qatar but Gareth Southgate’s men suffered heartbreak last night.

The Three Lions were largely the better side against the reigning world champions but goals from Olivier Giroud and Aurelien Tchouameni sent them home.

Harry Kane did level the game up from the spot in the second-half but couldn’t cancel out Giroud’s goal with his second penalty.

Henderson was a surprising inclusion on Southgate’s starting line-up for the 3-0 win over Wales and the Liverpool skipper kept his place in the side ever since.

The 32-year-old scored a crucial goal against Senegal in the last-16 and performed brilliantly in England’s midfield. But Henderson was left devastated last night and has now posted an emotional message on Instagram.

Lovren sends message to Henderson

The Liverpool midfielder took to social media to express his pride in England’s performances in Qatar.

And Lovren posted a message of support beneath the post after his old teammate was knocked out of the World Cup.

Lovren wrote: “Well done Skip. Be proud of yourself and the team,” alongside a round of applause and muscle emojis.

Of course, Lovren is part of the Croatia that surprisingly knocked out tournament favourites Brazil on Friday

The 33-year-old has played a key role in Zlatko Dalic’s side and is still proving to be a very capable defender.

It’s brilliant to see Lovren showing support for his former captain in Henderson after playing alongside him for six years.

England’s exit means the pair will not face-off against each other in the final but Henderson will likely be cheering on his former teammate.

Henderson will now be heading back to Liverpool and will be hoping to build on some promising displays when the Premier League returns later this month.
