Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski has made quite a name for himself at Spurs since arriving on an initial loan deal back in January 2022.

It didn’t take long for the Sweden international to impress at Tottenham, and it wasn’t surprising when he joined permanently from Juventus last summer.

Now, Kulusevski has written “a letter to Spurs fans” in The Players’ Tribune, where he told his story, from his childhood and formative steps in football to the present day at N17.

In the article, the 23-year-old recalled how he felt during Tottenham’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea, one of the most heroic defeats in the club’s recent history.

It was a match in which Spurs – down to nine men – continued to play a high line and came close to making it 2-2 on numerous occasions right near the end.

Dejan Kulusevski says Tottenham ‘won in life’ after Chelsea clash

Kulusevski singled Guglielmo Vicario out for particular praise during that match, saying the energy in his saves was “bigger than the entire stadium”.

The £17million summer signing pulled off numerous great stops, including one from Marc Cucurella which epitomised Tottenham’s new-found gutsiness.

Kulusevski, recalling that game, wrote: “You know what I remember from that game?

“I remember the moments near the end when we almost made it 2–2, I remember Vicario saving shots with an energy that was bigger than the entire stadium.

“I remember that we kept attacking, and not because Ange had told us to, because when Destiny got sent off he had no way of talking to all of us.

“No, we kept attacking because we felt it was the right thing to do. Ange was proud of that. We never stopped being us.

“But my favourite moment was after the game. When we had lost 4–1, and we went over to the fans. You didn’t boo us, you didn’t whistle us.

“You applauded us, you understood what it meant. Yes, we had lost a game. But we won in life.”

Tottenham turned page in loss to Chelsea as new personality established – opinion

Tottenham’s loss to Chelsea truly felt like Spurs had turned a page. The Tottenham players, spurred on by Postecoglou, went all out and put in a tremendous effort to try and claw a point back.

Although it didn’t come off on that occasion, the psychological boost Spurs received from both their displays and what it meant to the fans has certainly carried on well into the season.

And Vicario, who shone on that day, has continued to impress for Tottenham. So much so, in fact, that the iconic Hugo Lloris hasn’t been missed since the Italian arrived at N17.
