Micah Richards has detailed his shock in Manchester United’s stunning swoop to appoint Omar Berrada as their new CEO under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The former Manchester City chief football operations officer joined the Red Devils earlier this week in what was INEOS first major appointment behind the scenes in their bid to bring United back to their former glory.

However, the hiring of Berrada caught everyone by surprise, with the former FC Barcelona official a massive reason behind City’s incredible success both on and off the pitch.

And speaking on the Rest is Football, Richards revealed his shock in United pulling off such a surprising appointment, with the Red Devils landing one of their rivals’ most important figures away from the action.

Richards said: “To see him go to United is a massive blow and it definitely was a shock but by all accounts it was done amicably and they wish him well. Well, they wish him well but not better.

“But it just shows you how far Man City have come in terms of organisation that now all the big clubs around the world now are trying to poach their staff. It says a lot about him and how Man City are doing things.”

Ratcliffe and INEOS clearly have big ideas for United, and the appointment of Berrada is about as seismic as they could come at Old Trafford this month.

The former City official was an influential figure at the Etihad Stadium as well as for City Football Group’s other clubs, such as Girona FC and New York City FC.

And at United, there’s now a clear vision for what the Red Devils are trying to become, with Berrada’s appointment pointing towards a club who want to run smoothly both on and off the pitch.
