‘Definitely’: Jamie O’Hara urges Tottenham to sign 29-year-old defender who labelled Harry Kane ‘world-class’

Jamie O’Hara has told TalkSPORT that Tottenham Hotspur should sign Manchester United star Harry Maguire – who labelled Harry Kane a ‘world-class’ player after the World Cup.

Tottenham’s struggles in defence have been evident this season as Antonio Conte’s men have now conceded the first goal in each of their last 10 games in all competitions.

Spurs have managed to mount some impressive comebacks but they couldn’t repeat the trick on Saturday as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa in north London.

Eric Dier dropped to the bench after some shaky performances in recent weeks, but it was the same type of Spurs performance with a back-three of Cristian Romero, Clement Lenglet and Ben Davies.

Now, O’Hara has suggested that Spurs should go and sign Maguire after the England star has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

O’Hara urges Tottenham to sign Maguire

Maguire enjoyed another brilliant World Cup campaign with England last month, despite doubts over his selection in the build-up to the tournament.

But his displays in Qatar haven’t proved to be enough to get him back into United’s side, even with Lisandro Martinez still out of action following Argentina winning the tournament.

Erik Ten Hag opted to play Luke Shaw at centre-back over the 29-year-old during their 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday. And O’Hara feels Spurs should swoop for the Englishman following his most recent snub.

“Harry Maguire is better than what we’ve got,” he told TalkSPORT

“He’s not playing at Manchester United. If a left-back is playing at centre-half and you’re not featuring, then Maguire has got to be looking at saying ‘I want out.’

“[Lisandro] Martinez is going to come back from the World Cup with Argentina, so Harry Maguire is going to go even further down the pecking order.

“Maguire has got to look to get out of there. I would have him at Tottenham, absolutely, definitely.”

O’Hara also suggested that Tottenham should go and sign another England star in Jordan Pickford and has previously claimed that Maguire is better than Eric Dier

Maguire has had a tough time in Manchester over the past year but has shown he can perform at the top level in a system that suits him.

The centre-back was solid for England at the World Cup and labelled Spurs’ talisman, Kane, a ‘world-class’ player after the tournament.

It seems clear that Ten Hag doesn’t trust the Englishman in his system and he could be an ideal fit for Conte’s style of football at Spurs. But it remains to be seen if the Italian will remain in north London with doubts surrounding his future after a poor run of form.
