Jurgen Klopp has announced he’s leaving Liverpool.
The German has announced that he’ll be departing at the end of the season, and Liverpool have a huge job on their hands in terms of finding a replacement.
The Reds have been here before though. Filling the shoes of the likes of Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly wasn’t an easy task all those years ago, but the Reds always found a way to rebuild.
Now, in this modern landscape, replacing Klopp will be incredibly tough, but the man himself has already named someone who he thinks would be up to the job one day – Steven Gerrard.
Indeed, back in 2021, Klopp named Gerrard as someone who he thinks is destined to manage the Reds one day.

Klopp backed Gerrard for the Liverpool job
Klopp responded when asked if Gerrard could be a future Liverpool manager back in 2021.
“Oh yes I do, absolutely. The only thing is when is the right moment for that,” Klopp said
“I think that Stevie is doing really well and he’s very young from a manager’s point of view so it’s just when is the right moment for him to take the job. Yes, I believe it will definitely happen and good for everyone.”
Not this time
For a long time, Gerrard looked like he would be the perfect replacement for Klopp, but now that the German’s departure is coming to pass, appointing Gerrard looks like an awful idea.
He’s currently struggling to get results in the Saudi Pro League, and that doesn’t necessarily scream future Liverpool boss, does it?
Of course, Gerrard has plenty of credit in the bank at Anfield due to his status as a club legend from his playing days, but in a coaching capacity, we can’t see this being viewed as a good idea within Anfield.
Liverpool have a huge job on their hands finding a replacement for Klopp, and Gerrard probably isn’t the man for the role at this point.
