'Definitely going to keep improving': Liverpool-linked £50m centre-back tipped for stardom
Reported Liverpool target Ben White has been tipped for success by Matthew Upson, who believes the 23-year-old has “a lot of potential” and will “keep improving”.
According to the Sunday Mirror (13 December, p. 73), the Reds want to sign the talented Brighton defender along with Seagulls teammate Yves Bissouma.
White shone on loan at at Leeds United last season, helping the Whites earn promotion to the Premier League, which in turn led to him penning a new contract on the south coast.
The 6ft ace has become one of the first names on Graham Potter’s teamsheet, with starts in each of Brighton’s league games so far plus the League Cup meeting with Manchester United.
Former England and Brighton defender Upson told The Argus about White: “I like him. I think he has got a lot of potential.
“He is pretty mobile and he has also adapted well to playing a holding midfield role, which is pretty good for Brighton.
“A lot of their centre-backs can play in other positions – like Veltman, like Burn, like White. White has got a turn of pace and is pretty good all round.
“I know he had an outstanding season at Leeds playing in a four but he has been very good for Brighton and definitely is going to keep improving.”
Despite his young age, White has shown he’s a cut above at both Leeds and Brighton, and has plenty of room to grow, making him a great long-term prospect for any top club.
Transfer expert Ian McGarry recently told the Transfer Window podcast that “Brighton value him at anything £50million plus” – although he’s not cheap, he definitely seems a worthy investment.
