Ahead of the summer transfer window, Rangers need to think about potential new additions in central defence.
Joe Worrall is set to depart, heading back to Nottingham Forest after his loan spell expires. Meanwhile, ageing defender Gareth McAuley is out of contract and heading towards retirement.
Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic remain on Rangers’ books. But Steven Gerrard still needs to bring in two new central defenders.
And reported targets Timm Klose and George Edmundson can be the ideal solutions. Both are available for bargain deals and they would complement each other perfectly.
Norwich City defender Klose is an experienced professional with over 250 senior appearances during his career. According to The Sun via HITC, Rangers want him on a free transfer.
The Switzerland international is currently out of contract at Norwich. With the Canaries winning promotion to the Premier League, Rangers could guarantee more regular playing time.
Edmundson has also been linked (The Daily Mail). The Oldham Athletic defender has already played 79 senior games despite his young age and would cost £450k.
The 21-year-old is a promising young defender who would probably be fourth-choice initially if he moved to Ibrox.
But he could learn a lot from Klose. Edmundson would be a back-up choice to start with before pushing into the first-team, while Klose would be the experienced option that Rangers need.
For a combined total of less than half a million pounds, this could be a bargain double deal to prepare Rangers for the short-term and long-term future.
